When hiring internally for a position, you will need to note that the job posting is internal. This training guide explains both job posting type functionality and how they can be used.

    Use cases

    • This feature is designed to provide flexibility for organizations that manage both publicly visible job postings and private, internal job opportunities. Here are some specific scenarios where this feature can be applied:
      • Use Case 1: Hiring for Confidential Roles
Companies may have positions that are only open to current employees or internal candidates, such as leadership roles or specialized internal promotions. In this scenario, using Internal Jobs ensures that the role is not posted publicly and only visible to internal employees through a company’s internal career site or invite-only apply link.
        • Example: A company wants to promote someone to a new director-level position but doesn’t want to publicly advertise it. The job is marked as Internal, so only employees within the organization can apply.
      • Use Case 2: Internal Mobility Programs
Organizations with strong internal mobility initiatives may regularly post internal jobs to encourage career growth and retention. These jobs are available only to current employees to apply for before opening them to the public.
        • Example: A retail chain offers store managers an opportunity to apply for district manager roles before making those positions publicly available. These roles are marked as Internal for a specific period, giving employees first access.
      • Use Case 3: Public Hiring Campaigns
When hiring for multiple positions across various locations that are open to the public, the External Job type is used. This allows job listings to be visible on career sites, job boards, and external job feeds for anyone to apply.
        • Example: A company launches a large-scale hiring campaign for seasonal workers. These positions are marked as External so they can be promoted on job boards like Indeed and LinkedIn.
      • Use Case 4: Hybrid Job Postings
In some cases, jobs might be posted both internally and externally, allowing current employees to apply while also opening the role to the public. This can be useful when an organization wants to prioritize internal candidates but also considers external applicants.
        • Example: An energy company is hiring a project manager and wants to give internal employees the opportunity to apply while also making the role visible to external candidates. The job is marked as both Internal and External in the system.

    External vs. internal jobs defined

    • External Jobs – Jobs that can be posted to the public for any candidate to apply to.
    • Internal Jobs – Jobs that are not posted publicly and are meant for internal job application only.

    FAQs

How do Internal jobs get distributed?

Internal Jobs on Job Feeds Logic

    • Standard Job Feeds: By default, only External jobs are included in standard job feeds, such as those used for job boards like Indeed or LinkedIn. Any job marked as Internal will be excluded from these feeds to ensure internal jobs remain private to the organization.
    • Internal Job Feeds: If needed, a separate job feed can be created. This feed can be used to post Internal jobs to an internal career site that is accessible only to employees. Please contact your CS Representative to assist you in creating internal job feeds.
