List select-enabled System Attributes allow you to create a list selector for your client’s System Attributes to allow for more structured attribute data storage. This is helpful for preventing any incorrect data values entered by the candidate or employee and will ensure the most accurate information persists anywhere that the attribute is configured.
Note: This attribute type is available for Custom Candidate Attributes and Custom Job Attributes only.
Create list-select System Attributes
List select-enabled System Attributes can be created for Candidate Attributes, Job Attributes, or both.
- Navigate to the System Attributes page.
- Open either the Candidate Attributes or Job Attributes lists from the left panel, depending on the custom attribute you want to add.
- Click + Add Custom Attribute in the top right corner of the page.

- In the slide-out drawer that opens, enter in the required fields of Attribute Name and Attribute Description.
- Note: The Key Name auto-populates based on the Attribute Name.
- Select List Select as the Attribute Type in the dropdown selection.
- You can then update its privacy settings, if needed, and then enable whether it will be added to reports or not.
- After selecting the Attribute Type, a new tab for List Select Configuration will display alongside the Attribute Details tab. Open this new tab.
- Add list-select items in one of two methods:
- Manually Add – This will open a new child drawer where you can enter the list items. Once entered, the Value field will automatically populate with that name, but can be edited. Click Add List Item in the bottom right corner to add a child item for the parent attribute.
- Upload CSV – This will open a standard system file selector where you can choose from a file on your device. The file will need to meet these template requirements to ensure a successful and correctly mapped upload.
- Click Create to save and add your list-select attribute.
Important Notes:
- An attribute cannot be changed from a free-text attribute to a list-select attribute and vice versa once the attribute is mapped to any question in the CEM.
- An error state will display for a list item’s empty language fields.
Edit list select attributes

Once added or uploaded, the mapped items and their values will be listed for you to view. Any updates that will need to be made can occur by clicking the item’s action menu, or three dot icon, and then Edit List Item from the drop-down menu that opens. You can then edit and save the value.
When a list item is deleted from an attribute and then the Undo action is taken, the list item will display back in the same order it was previously.

- Click Save in the top right corner of the task.
- Click the Publish button in the top right corner of the main Workflows page.
Multi-select parent values
In cases where the same child value needs to be mapped to several parent values, a user can multi-select the parent values at the child value-level configuration.
- Example: Child attribute “Department” as value “Product Management” → This child attribute is mapped to parent attribute “Pay Code” → child value “Product Management” needs to be mapped to parent values “PM123,” “PM987,” and “PM456” because any of those pay code’s can be associated to the Product Management Department.
To do this,
- Navigate to the child attribute you need to edit.
- Open the Edit Attribute options.
- Navigate to the List Select Configuration section.
- Click into Edit List Item for the child value you need to edit
- View the dropdown the options for parent value.
- Select all the parent values associated with the child values.
Multilingual List-select Attributes
List-select attribute can be enabled with Multilingual to accommodate for product mapping where the candidate can engage with the client's AI Assistant in multiple languages (i.e. such as a Form in three languages).
Enabling languages
Configuration Note: To configure an attribute in multiple languages, Multilingual must be enabled in Client Setup, along with Candidate Languages.
- Open the preferred list-select attribute.
- Click into the List Select Configuration tab.
- Click the language selector.
- Select the preferred languages that should be available for candidates.
- Click Apply.

- Click Create or Save.
An error state will display for a list item’s empty language fields.
Implementation options
Multilingual variants for a list-select attribute can be implemented via several methods:
- Initial Language selection - Turning on languages before list item configuration.
- Language selection post-list item configuration - Turning on languages after your list items have been configured.
Recommendations for configuration
Initial Language Selection is recommended if you plan to upload your list items via the .cvs upload feature.
- Navigate to the language dropdown.
- Select the languages that should be enabled.
- Save your language selections so that languages are now enabled for the attribute.
- Open to the list-select attribute template.
- Configure the template as usual for English list items.
- Note: For every language you’d like to upload list items for, add a new column with the header “list_items_”, followed by the language code (i.e. “list_items_fr” for French or “list_items_de” for German).
Conditions for CSV Upload:
- All list items added in English must have text for all the languages that you have added a column for to complete a successful upload.
- I.e. If you have added 20 list items in English and there are three additional language columns, all three additional languages must have values for all 20 list items.
- The upload file must only have columns for languages added to the attribute. If the file contains language columns for languages not enabled on the attribute, the upload will error.
- Navigate back to the List Select Configuration tab.
- Select the Upload CSV option and upload your file.
- A successful run of the file will result in our existing Preview Options modal so you can validate the file uploaded the list items properly, including options to preview the languages variants.
-
Note: If the file upload is unsuccessful, a modal will present indicating what is wrong with your upload so you can take corrective actions.

Language selection post list item configuration
This is recommended if you need the list items to be auto-translated after the list items have been created. To do this,
- Configure all your list items in English, either manually or via the .cvs upload option
- Click the language dropdown.
- Select the preferred languages.
- Click Apply.
- A confirmation modal will appear to confirm the changes. View a list of languages that have been added or removed.
- Toggle on Run auto-translation for this Attribute to run all configured list items through auto-translation for all configured languages.
- Click Confirm.

- The list items will then be translated.
-
Notes:
- No changes can be made to the attribute until the auto-translations have completed.
- You can exit the drawer for now while you wait for translations to finish. If you enter back into the drawer before the translations are completed, you will see a “background” translations running component at the top. This will go away once the auto-translations are complete.
-
Notes:
- After auto-translations have run, review the translations. Click into the options menu and then select Edit List Item to make any edits.
Note: Due to existing system limitations for the first release of the feature, the Multilingual list select configuration is available for only List-select Attributes which are less than 300 list items. If your Attribute contains more values, or you attempt to upload a CSV with more, an error modal will appear blocking the action.

User and candidate experience
If a multilingual list-select is mapped to a question at the product-level (i.e. a Conversation or Form question, for example), then the candidate will be presented with language options.
- For example, if Conversation “Screening” is configured in English, French, and German with associated multilingual list-select attributes mapped to multiple questions, and a candidate comes in and initiates the conversation in French, then the options for the question will present as the French options configured on the attribute.
This can also be validated at the setup when you are configuring an engagement in another language.
- For example, if a multilingual list-select is mapped to Job Screening question for a multilingual job, the preview options will display in the language you have selected on the Job Overview (i.e. viewing a job in German).
