This feature allows Company/Account Admins to configure an SFTP connection in Paradox that will send report data to the SFTP destination on a one-time or recurring basis.
Use cases
- Sending new hire data to a client’s payroll provider automatically each week.
- Sending another vendor recurring data from Paradox.
- Sending an internal data team information about their data warehouse.
- Sending encrypted report files to a SFTP destination.
Send reports via SFTP

To send a report via SFTP, then you must select SFTP as the File Delivery Method and select an SFTP folder from the SFTP Routing selector when scheduling a report. These selectors live in the File Format section of the Schedule dialog.
Company/Account Admins and Reporting Users can only view and edit SFTP connections they have created. Paradox Admin users can see and edit all SFTP connections setup in an account.
Add an SFTP connection
If a Company/Account Admin or Reporting User adds an SFTP connection, it will only display to the individual who created the SFTP connection. If you want the SFTP connection to be visible to all full access users, then contact your CS Representative to add this connection for you.
You can only set up a new SFTP connection when scheduling a report run. Once you’ve selected the Schedule action and the Schedule dialog opens, then complete the steps from the File Format section.
- Select SFTP as the File Delivery Method.
- Click into the SFTP Routing selector and select + Add New STFP Connection from its drop-down menu.
- In the new page of the drawer, complete the following fields:
-
Connection Type – The authentication method used to establish a connection with the SFTP server. Options include:
- Basic – This will require a username and password to be entered.
- Key File – This will require a username and a public key to be uploaded to the connection.
- Connection Name - The name of the data provider. This is the only field you are able to define yourself.
-
SFTP Host URL - This field will contain the full SFTP URL and the folder path in which this file should be placed under. Your internal technical/data team would give you this information in a format similar to the following: sftp://data50.dataprovidername.com/paradoxreports/schedulingreports
- Important Note: To send a file to the /inbound folder, add /inbound to the end of the SFTP Host URL.
- SFTP Port - Your internal technical/data team would give you this information along with the above URL info.
- SFTP Username - Your internal technical/data team would give you this information along with the above URL info.
- (Connection Type = Basic) SFTP Password - Your internal technical/data team would give you this information along with the above URL info.
-
(Connection Type = Key File) Public Key - Your internal technical/data team would share a public key file to be uploaded as part of this connection instead of a password. The acceptable file types for this are:
- .pem
- .ppk
- .pub
- .txt
-
Encrypt File – This setting will display when Basic is selected as the Connection Type and allows the report to be encrypted during delivery. When selected, additional settings will display, which are explained in the following section.

-
Connection Type – The authentication method used to establish a connection with the SFTP server. Options include:
- Click Validate Connection to confirm if the details are correct.
- If successful, you will see a green Connection Successful message and can move to the next step.
-
If unsuccessful, you will see a red Connection Unsuccessful message. This means something is wrong with the connection details and would require troubleshooting. Check the following:
- Incorrect username
- Incorrect password
- SFTP Host URL wasn’t entered correctly
- SFTP Port is missing
- Public Key was incorrect
- When your connection is validated, select Save.
Encrypt file

The Encrypt File checkbox will encrypt the file when it is sent to its destination. When checked, the following settings will then display:
-
Save As – This allows you to select the format of the report. The current accepted public key formats include:
- .csv (default)
- .gpg
- File Encryption PGP Key – You will be given an option to upload their public key to be used to encrypt the file. The file will then need to be decrypted with the private key by the client on their end for the report file.
