In today's digital landscape, the prevalence of spam and fraudulent activity poses a significant threat to user and client experience, security, and overall platform integrity. Malicious actions can degrade user satisfaction, expose sensitive information to risk, and compromise the overall reliability of our platform. Recognizing the seriousness of these threats, Paradox has developed anti-spam features and logic designed to safeguard our users and clients.
These measures are meticulously engineered to identify, block, and mitigate the impact of various fraudulent activities, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable digital environment. Our robust anti-spam strategies include advanced detection thresholds, real-time monitoring systems, direct user-initiated spam actions, and response mechanisms that continue to evolve to counteract the ever-changing tactics of malicious actors.
Use cases
- A user has identified a candidate is a likely a spammer.
- The system receives unusually excessive network/system requests and activity, indicating a likely abuse source.
Mark as spam
Users have the ability to directly mark candidates as spam as well as we have automated logic always “on-guard” monitoring, identifying ,and managing suspicious spammer-like activity.
Manually mark a candidate as spam
Users with correct permissions for a given candidate have the ability to mark candidate’s as Spam within the CEM when a user feels a particular candidate is illegitimate and/or a “bad actor” that needs to be blacklisted.

To do this, click the candidate's …More button and then select Spam from its drop-down menu. Once the user has marked the candidate as Spam, the candidate and with their contact information will be moved to the Spam folder.

The candidate will only be blocked in the account they were marked as spam.
Unspam candidates

Similarly, users have the ability to “undo” marking a candidate as Spam simply by clicking the Unspam button under the …More menu within the candidate's profile. This action will remove their profile and contact information from the Spam folder and place them back into the All Candidates folder.
Automated blacklisting
The Paradox system is constantly “on guard” monitoring for suspicious or unusual activity coming from the internet. We have built automated blacklisting thresholds for determining when a source is a likely risk to our system, and take automatic action against that source by adding the IP address and contact details (name and contact method) to our blacklist.
Requests by SMS: +15 per minute
Candidates sending consecutive texts to our system at a rate that exceeds greater than 15 texts per minute will be placed on the blacklist automatically.
Requests by IP: +240 per minute
When IP addresses connect to the system to perform API requests, we monitor and automatically blacklist source IP addresses that exceed 240 requests per minute.
Requests by Candidate_ID: +30 per minute
The system actively monitors for unusual activity, where we are receiving API requests for a given candidate that exceeds +30 API requests per minute for that candidate ID.
Automated blacklist removal
The Paradox system also supports the ability for automatic delisting from our blacklist.
- In cases where a user manually marks the candidate as spam, the Candidate Profile will remain in the Spam folder indefinitely, but the IP address that was added to the blacklist will be a automatically removed after 120 seconds.
- In cases where the source was blacklisted to hitting rate limiting and was automatically blacklisted, they will be removed from the blacklist after 4 hours of being blacklisted.
- In certain situations, clients may request to have a particular candidate added to the blacklist manually. In this case, the IP address of the candidate will remain on the blacklist indefinitely and will only be removed from the blacklist if manually performed by Paradox's engineering team.

FAQs
If a candidate gets manually marked as Spam in one CEM account, will they also be added to the Spam folder of other CEM accounts on the same instance?
No. They will only be moved to the Spam folder in the specific CEM account they were marked as Spam in.
If a candidate gets manually marked as Spam in one instance, will they also be added to the Spam folder of other instances?
No. They will only be moved to the Spam folder in the specific CEM account they were marked as Spam in.
For a candidate that has been marked as spam, what communications are they able to receive, if any?
The candidate will no longer receive any communications from the system.
If a candidate was identified as a spammer via our automated rate throttling feature and added to the blacklist automatically, will that candidate be able to receive communications from other CEM accounts or instances?
No. For candidates who were automatically added to the blacklist because they exceeded our rate limiting thresholds, we add them to the global blacklist which is leveraged by all CEM accounts and instances. Meaning, they will no longer be able to communicated to anywhere in our system until removed from the blacklist.
