Use cases Masking vs. encrypting data System components impacted Set attribute privacy settings User experience

Masking or encrypting System Attributes prevents certain data from displaying in the CEM to all system users (including Paradox Admins). This ensures the privacy and security of candidate data for information that is important to request but not relevant for your client’s team to know while hiring, such as their Social Security Number, race, or banking information, among others.

    Use cases

    • Clients who want to hide or encrypt certain attributes from users in the system.

    Masking vs. encrypting data

The difference between masking and encrypting is as follows:

    • Mask – This will prevent the attribute from being displayed within the Candidate Inbox and will display all asterisks when a value is present.
      • Examples: race and gender.
    • Encrypt – This will only show asterisks in the UI, have encrypted values in the database, and will be masked when using the public API when pulling Candidate Attribute values.
      • Examples: Social Security Number, banking information, and sensitive information that venders should not have free access to view.

    System components impacted

Attributes that are marked as masked or encrypted will be hidden from all system user views, including Paradox Admins/System Implementors.

    Set attribute privacy settings

You can mask or encrypt attributes as needed from the System Attributes page.

    1. Navigate to the System Attributes page.
    2. Click the preferred attribute type from the left panel.
    3. Open the preferred attribute category and then attribute.
    4. Update the Attribute Privacy Settings selector to the preferred setting. Options include:
      • None (default)
      • Mask
      • Encrypt
    5. Click Save in the bottom right corner of the drawer.
    6. Any values stored for this attribute will then be hidden from user view.

    User experience

When an attribute, such as a candidate attribute, is masked or encrypted, then it does not display for the user.

This applies to the following areas of the system:

    • Candidate Inbox
    • Candidate Management
    • Recruiting Dashboard
    • Candidate Profile
