Add conditional logic to questions or sections in a guided document

When creating a guided document within the Document Builder, you will have the ability to set conditions on document questions and sections. This allows you to target questions or sections based on Job Attributes, Location Attributes, and previous questions.
Add conditional logic to questions
To add conditional logic to questions, follow the steps below:
- Select the document field that corresponds to a question to open the document field’s configurations.
- In the right panel showing the document field’s configurations, select the Add button under the Targeting section.
- In the slide-out drawer, you can define the targeting rules by filling out the following below:
- Targeting Rules – Select what you want to target. The options in this dropdown menu are the following:
- Previous Question – This targets the previous question in the guided document experience.
- Location Attributes – This targets any standard location attributes, such as address or city.
- Job Attributes – This targets any standard job attributes.

Screen For – Select the text value that you are screening for. The options in this drop-down menu are the following:
- Exactly matches
- Does not exactly match
- Contains
- Does not contain
- Starts with
- Does not start with
- Value – Type the value that you want to target.
- (Optional) Add any other conditional targeting rules by selecting the + AND or OR button. You can also select + Add Rule Set to add another targeting rule set for more complex conditional logic.
- In the lower-right corner, select Apply to apply once you have finished adding all desired conditional logic for the question.
- Repeat steps #1-5 as desired for all questions that you want to add conditional logic to.
The conditional logic configured for each question should then display in the Targeting section of the document field’s right panel.
Add conditional logic to sections
- Select the ellipses in the upper-right corner of the section.
- In the drop-down menu, select Add Condition to open a slide-out drawer.
- In this drawer, you can define the targeting rules by filling out the following below:
- Targeting Rules – Select what you want to target. The options in this dropdown menu are the following:
- Previous Question – This targets the previous question in the guided document experience.
- Location Attributes – This targets any standard location attributes, such as address or city.
- Job Attributes – This targets any standard job attributes.

The conditional logic configured for each section should then display, marked by a blue conditional icon on the section.
You cannot configure any conditional logic for the first question and section of any guided document experience.
