Paradox's new Report Builder and its legacy builder have stark differences in their designs, report creation process, template system, and user permissions. Review this guide to learn more about the differences between the two Report Builders.

    Design and user interface

    New Report Builder

The new Report Builder features a modern, streamlined interface designed around three core components:

    • Filters – Dynamic filtering system that adapts based on selected metrics and fields.
    • Metrics – Aggregated data values for analysis (e.g., number of offers sent, total candidates).
    • Fields – Individual data points for analysis (e.g., candidate names, status).

    User experience enhancements

    • Clean, intuitive layout with logical component organization.
    • Template-first approach to guide new users.
    • Progressive disclosure of options as users build reports.
    • Contextual help and best practices integrated into the interface.

    Legacy Report Builder

The previous system utilized a linear, step-by-step wizard approach that included the following:

    • Type Section – This section is where you select the report category and type from predefined options.
    • Fields Section – This section is where you can customize fields, labels, sorting, and order.
    • Filter Section – This section is where you can apply filters with various operators and conditions.
    • Delivery Section – This section is where you configure file format, delivery method, and recipients.
    • Summary Section – This section is where you view a review all defined report details and confirm the sending of the report.

    Interface characteristics

    • Multi-step wizard format requiring sequential completion
    • Heavy reliance on dropdown menus and traditional form elements
    • More complex navigation between different configuration sections

    Report creation approach

    Similarities

    • Fields/metrics can be renamed, added, and removed.
    • A timeframe can be selected for the report.
    • Scheduling/running a report will include similar options for the file format, delivering, frequency, and date range selections.

    Differences

    New Report Builder

    Legacy Report Builder

    • Reports can be built from one of 15 defined templates and further customized to meet reporting needs.
    • Reports can be created from scratch, allowing the user to decide the datapoints that they want to compare from the start.
    • When adding or removing metrics/fields, the metrics/fields available for selection will dynamically update to adapt to the selections made.
    • Reports are built from predefined categories and types that are selected in the first section of the Report Builder.
    • Fields can be added and removed, but the data available is limited based on the report selected.

    Template system

    New Report Builder

    Legacy Report Builder

    • There are 15 defined templates saved within the Report Builder that can be selected when creating a report.

    • Reports are built from predefined categories and types that are selected in the first section of the Report Builder.
    • User-created reports can be saved as report templates within the system and can be shared to other team members for their reporting needs.

    Permissions and access

    New Report Builder

    Legacy Report Builder

    • Default no-access policy requiring explicit permission grants.
    • Access granted to the new Report Builder is based on a single Reports permission.
      • Full access allows users to create and manage reports, schedule/run reports, share and receive reports, publish reports, and use report templates.
        • Note: Creator-only edit and delete permissions.
      • View access allows users to view report details and receive reports from other teams.
    • Access is granted on a per-report basis, with default access granted to certain user roles.
    • Creator-only edit and delete permissions
