Attributes in job data packages can be marked as optional so that when they are created and tied to jobs, values aren’t required and lead to a poor candidate experience.

By default, all existing and new attributes will be marked as required to post the job to prevent any issues in your current processes.

Use cases

• Saving an attribute with a blank value is useful for when a Job Attribute is not applicable to a specific location or when values vary by location.

Configuration

Individual attributes can be marked as optional from within their job data package by opening the package's details; selecting the attribute’s action menu, or ellipses icon, to the right of the attribute; and then selecting Mark as Optional to Post Job. Ensure to click Save.

• Note: This option will be replaced with a Mark as Required to Post Job action, which can be selected at any time to mark the attribute as required once more.

Optional vs. required

The logic for a Job Attribute for both the Job Manager and My Jobs pages will vary depending on whether it is marked as optional or required.

• If an attribute has a setting of Mark as Optional to Post Job in Job Data Packages:
  • Job Data Packages – A user can successfully save a job data package with a blank value.
  • Job Manager – A user can successfully save the Additional Details drawer with a blank value.
  • My Jobs – A user can update or post a job successfully with a blank attribute value.
• If an attribute has a setting of Mark as Required to Post Job in Job Data Packages:
  • Job Data Packages – A user must enter an attribute value to successfully save a job data package.
  • Job Manager: 
    • If the attribute is also marked as Disable Editing/Viewing in My Jobs, then a user must enter an attribute value in the Additional Details drawer of the Job Builder. 
    • If the attribute is also marked as Enable Editing in My Jobs, then a user will be able to save the Additional Details drawer with a blank attribute. 
  • My Jobs – A user must enter an attribute value to successfully update or post a job.

Blue vs. red asterisk

When updating job data packages from the Job Data Packages, Job Manager, and/or My Jobs pages, you will see different asterisk colors that will display based on the permissions and logic set for each attribute.

• Red Asterisk – The attribute is required on the current page.
• Blue Asterisk – The attribute is not required while editing the package on the current page but it will be required at some point in the job posting process (e.g., it may not be required in the Job Data Packages page, but it is required on the Job Manager page).
• No Asterisk – The attribute is not required at all before posting a job.
