Create Attribute Job Search conversations
Table of Contents
Attribute Job Search conversations can be built for candidates beginning their job search or who have not met the needs of a job they applied to and are being re-engaged to apply to a new job.
Build a new Attribute Job Search conversation
Users will need full access to Conversation Builder in order to complete the below process.
- Select All Apps from the top left corner of the header and then Settings from its drop-down menu.
- When the Settings page opens, select Conversation Builder under Automation.
- In thee upper-right corner of the All Conversations list, select + Add Conversation and then Add Custom Conversation.
- Enter a name for the conversation and then select Job Attribute Search as the Conversation Targeting.
- Add the necessary questions, settings, and/or actions. With this conversation targeting selection, only the following will be available:
- Job Filter Question
- Job Parameters
- Add Condition
- End Conversation
- Publish the conversation.
Question types
Job Filter
The Job Filter question should act as a question to build a query component for the conversation’s search based on the candidate’s response. This question type will require that a Job Attribute is mapped to the question so that your AI Assistant can understand the attribute that should be referenced to query against for the aggregated search query.
- Note: An attribute can only be mapped to a Job Filter question once per conversation.
NLP-based search
To allow for flexibility in candidate results, Job Attributes that traditionally use NLP during job search will have the option to continue using NLP, or an exact match can be applied.
This means that by default, questions with these attributes mapped will use our NLP matching to allow for more flexibility in the candidate’s search query. If Search exact match to candidate response is applied from the ellipses menu, then the system will search by the exact match of the candidate’s search.
Example:
- Job Filter question “Department” is added, where the Job Attribute Job Category is mapped.
- The question asks “What type of role are you most interested in?”
- Candidate replies “Financial”
- If NLP-based search is used, “Financial” can match against the Job Category value of “Finance.”
- If Search exact match to candidate response is used, “Financial” will not match to “Finance” since it’s not an exact match.
Each option has it’s pros and cons, depending on the type of data the Attribute stores and the desired result of the client, so be intentional with choosing an option
Question actions
The Job Filter question will have the following available actions from the ellipses menu:
- Edit Reprompt Message – This will display when a list-select attribute is mapped to a question. This allows reprompt messages to be edited for a list-select question type since the candidate should be re-prompted until they reply with one of the list-select options.
- Skip Question – This will allow you to set the conditions that candidates should meet in order to skip this question.
- Search exact match to candidate response – This will ensure that the system searches for jobs based on the candidate's exact search term(s).
- Disable/Enable Question – The Disable Question option will prevent the question from being presented to the candidate in the conversation. You can undo this action by selecting the ellipses and then Enable Question.
- Delete Question – This will delete the question from the conversation.
Job Parameters
A maximum of 10 Job Parameter configurations can be added per conversation. After 10 are added, the Job Parameters option will disappear from the dropdown of conversation component options.
The Job Parameters setting is where you can define components of the search query for the candidate. Configuring Job Parameters in this type of conversation allows you to preset parts of the candidate’s search query on their behalf, depending on the focus of the conversation. Selecting + Add Parameters will open a slide-out drawer where you can build parameter settings using a conditional builder.
- Example: If sending a conversation to a candidate who is disqualified due to not meeting the age requirements, the Job Parameters can be configured as Minimum Age ≥ 18.
Job Parameters operators can be configured as text-based or numeric. This allows you to pre-configure the search parameters based on the data the attribute houses.
-
Note: Numeric operators are available only on a set of Standard Attributes that can be numeric (listed below) and Custom Attributes.
- Job Function
- Job Openings
- Minimum Age
Add condition
When selecting Add condition between two questions, you will be able to create an unlimited number of paths that the conversation can progress, depending on customizable criteria. With conditions, candidate answers are processed in real-time to determine the outcome/next questions based on the candidate’s previous answers. You’ll be able to define the conditions in between questions throughout the conversation on any number of previously collected data.
In selecting Add Condition, a slide-out drawer will open where you can set the Default Condition and add additional conditions, as needed. Available targeting options include:
- End Conversation – This will generate an End Conversation configuration component for the conditional path by sending the candidate a closing message and ending the conversation.
- Move to: Question – This will generate a dropdown selection of the question names from the conversation. Select the question that the candidate should be moved to in the conversation.
- Next Job Filter Question – This will generate a Job Filter question configuration component for the conditional path.
- Set Job Parameter – This will generate a Job Parameter configuration component for the conditional path.
When conditions are applied in the conversation, paths will be created based on the number of paths created in the conditions drawer. Candidates will be placed in the appropriate path based on the answers they give throughout the conversation. Paths will split apart in the conversation in a structured manner, with the default path always being on the left and all other paths being added to the right based on their position in the conditions drawer.
Available attributes
All Standard and Custom Job Attributes should be available in the Job Filter questions and the Job Parameters configuration. However, the following attributes will be read-only and unable to be mapped in the conversation:
Read-only attributes that are unable to be mapped in the conversation
- Apply URL (apply_url)

Additional conversation logic
- At least one Job Filter question configuration must be added to the conversation.
- The End Conversation element must be added.
- The conversation reminders logic will apply to Job Attribute Search conversations.
- Conversation + Q&A. Candidate Q&A should not be active during the Job Attribute conversation, but it will be allowed after the conversation is complete, once job results are delivered to the candidate.
- Conversation + Job Search. Job Search should not be active during the Job Attribute conversation to prevent a confusing experience of two searches happening at the same time.
- Job Attribute conversation mapping should not be allowed for the Capture stage in any configuration, such as Journey Targeting.
