Paradox allows for multiple multilingual capabilities that support your global candidate and employee base. These capabilities include updating a user's default platform language, hosting multiple translations for candidate and employee engagements, automatic translation, and translations on the fly.
While some functionality is available to users, other functionality can only be used when a user role is granted access or entirely restricted to only your CS Representative.
Types of languages and features available
Language selections are available for both users and candidates. Available languages must be selected on the backend by your CS Representative for both offerings.
- Platform languages – These are the languages that the CEM's UI will be translated into for users. A user's platform language selection can be made within their My Profile (described in the next section).
- Candidate languages – These are the languages that your AI Assistant can use to converse with candidates.
If you are unable to select the preferred platform language or you see an issue with your AI Assistant communicating in a candidate's language, contact your CS Representative to expand the available language options.
When it comes to both platform and candidate languages, there are two types:
- Validated languages – Languages that are used the most and the most consistently updated in the system. View these validated languages below.
- Available languages – Languages that are about 70% accurate but may need additional updates as they are regularly used. NLP can help train Olivia to understand better and use these languages, but this may take some time. View these available languages below.

Default platform language
Every user who has login access to the CEM can update their platform language so that all pages within the CEM are in their preferred language. Updating this language selection will not impact other users' platform languages.
To do this,
- Click the avatar menu.
- Select My Profile.

- When your My Profile opens, select the Settings button.
- A slide-out drawer will then open. Select the preferred language from the Platform Language selector.

- Click Save.
The system will then automatically update to the selected language and all messages within the Candidate Inbox as well as those sent to the user will automatically translate into this language.
Multilingual candidate and employee engagements
When Multilingual is enabled for your account, you are able to create and auto-tranlate candidate and/or employee engagements in languages other than english. The available products/features where this can be used include:
- Conversations
- Forms
- Journeys
- Offers
- Surveys
- Workflows
- Jobs
- Campaigns
- Content Management System (Q&A)
- Interview Scheduling
- Events
- Messaging Templates

When working in some of the above product areas, you will see a multilingual icon button/selector in the top right corner of the page. Select this and then the preferred language. If you are selecting a language for the first time, then the product/feature will auto-translate your English version into the selected language. This helps to provide a foundation for your translations to make your work more efficient when creating multiple versions.
However, it is encouraged to hold off on auto-translating until the English version is finalized. Once auto-translated, some translations cannot be re-translated.
Configure additional languages
Need to configure additional languages that aren't displayed in this button/selector? You can do so from the Configure Languages button in the bottom of the multilingual dropdown menu.
- Select the multilingual icon button/selector.
- Select Configure Languages at the bottom of this menu.
- A new page will display in the menu. Select all languages that you want to use for translation.

- Click Apply.
Those selected languages will then be added to the multilingual menu.
If you do not see the Configure Languages button and/or do not see your preferred languages in this menu, then contact your manager and/or CS Representative for assistance in adding the preferred languages.
Automatic translation
Several different aspects of the platform can or will be automatically translated to assist in helping you work more efficiently.
Candidate Inbox
When enabled for your account, candidate conversations will be automatically translated into your selected platform language.

To view the message in its original language, simply click the View Translation text under the preferred message.
Language detection
Paradox allows for automatic language detection, depending on the specific product, feature, or action, which are listed below:
-
Page Language Targeting
- If a URL has a specific language tag on it, your AI Assistant will start the conversation in that language.
- This setting is toggled in Web Management on the specific widget.
-
Browser Language & Country Code
- The conversation is translated based on the candidate’s preferred browser language.
- The translation may also come from the country code if a candidate initiates conversation via SMS.
-
Candidate Request
- The candidate asks your AI Assistant to speak to them in a different language within the conversation.
-
Candidate Speaking
- Your AI Assistant sets the candidate's language preference based on the first message they send, as long as the message includes 3 or more words.
- In order to switch languages mid-conversation, the candidate needs to explicitly ask your AI Assistant.
-
Candidate Attribute
- Once your AI Assistant learns a candidate’s language preference, they will store that information in the Candidate Profile to provide a seamless hiring experience.
Note: If a candidate is in a Job Search or Apply conversation and the language that they are speaking/requesting is not a configured candidate language, then they will not receive translations. Please reach out to your CS Representative to add a new language for your candidate(s).
Auto-translation feature
In several parts of the platform, the auto-translation action is available for use. This means that by clicking a specific button or language, the English version will be automatically translated into the selected language for you.

For example, you can select the preferred language from the multilingual icon button in the CMS to automatically translate the intent answers into the preferred language. This may take up to 5 minutes, as it is translating the responses for the first time.
However, it is encouraged to hold off on auto-translating until the English version is finalized. Once auto-translated, some translations cannot be re-translated.
More specific information on auto-translations within the platform can be found on the corresponding product/feature's user guide within this help site.
Translation on the fly
The following products/features use Translation on the Fly, meaning that they can be created and managed in English and will automatically translate into the candidate's or user's preferred languages when the candidate/user interacts with them. These include:
- Q&A widgets
- Surveys
